The NPR Tiny Desk Contest for 2025 is a unique opportunity for undiscovered musicians to gain significant exposure. This year marks the 10th anniversary of the contest, and NPR has expanded the prize and opportunities for participants. The winner of the contest will get to perform their own Tiny Desk concert at NPR's headquarters, go on a 10-city national tour, and be featured on NPR's "All Things Considered."
Additionally, the winner will receive mentorship from industry professionals to help advance their music career.
For the first time, there's also a fan favorite vote this year. Contest judges will select their favorite entries to be showcased in the Tiny Desk Contest Top Shelf series on YouTube, where artists and fans can vote for their favorites.

Here are some recommendations for musicians entering the NPR Tiny Desk Contest:
Originality in Music: Focus on showcasing your unique style and sound. Originality catches the attention of judges and can set you apart from other contestants.
Engaging Performance: Even though the setting is minimal, your performance should be engaging. Use your expressions, vocal variations, and instrument mastery to make a compelling presentation.
High-Quality Video and Audio: Ensure that your video and audio quality are as good as possible within your means. Clear sound and a well-framed video can make a significant difference in how your performance is perceived, and having proper lighting is super important.
Personal Introduction: Start your video with a brief introduction of yourself and your song. This personal touch can make your entry memorable and helps establish a connection with the audience and judges.
Keep It Intimate: The essence of the Tiny Desk concerts is their intimate feel. Try to convey a sense of closeness and personal connection through your performance.
Creativity with Your 'Desk': The contest rules require performing behind a desk, but you can get creative. Some past entrants have used unconventional desks (like ironing boards or makeshift setups) to stand out.
Practice and Prepare: Thoroughly rehearse your performance to ensure you are confident and can manage any nervousness. A smooth, practiced performance will likely resonate better with viewers.
Check the Contest Rules: Always double-check the latest contest rules and guidelines to ensure your entry meets all criteria and deadlines.
Watch Previous Winners: Study past winners to understand what types of performances succeed. Note how they manage their arrangements, presence, and song choices.
Feedback Before Submitting: If possible, get feedback on your performance from friends, family, or other musicians before submitting your video. This feedback can provide valuable insights that may improve your entry.
