The seed for song, “Wolf”, was planted on Halloween when I wrote the lyrical hook- since then, it has truly come to life through the recording process- we did all of the recording/ production ourselves (my trio). I have perfected this song down to the tiniest details and it’s some of my proudest work. I know the right people will connect with it when they find it, and I’m determined to get it to those ears.
Vanna wrote the song during different writing sessions, and wanted it to have a message that could be personally interpreted and aligned with listeners own experiences, by the people and reach their hearts.
“This song is not just one thing- it’s an encapsulation of countless feelings that all seem to effortlessly tie to one another. It acts as a reminder that there is a synchronicity between the incredibly varying hardships that we all experience in all aspects of our lives. It’s somewhat of an ode to the blurry lines separating childhood and adulthood. It is heartbreak, it is love, it is helplessness, it is devotion, it is to feel stuck…and it is everything to me.”

The song “Wolf” explores themes of entrapment, emotional dependence, and internal conflict within a toxic relationship that doesn’t usually end well. The narrator struggles between love and self-preservation, feeling bound to someone who exerts control over them. The recurring imagery of crying “wolf” suggests a cycle of warning and regret, where the narrator recognizes the danger yet continues to stay. The lyrics are deep and with each listen comes greater discovery of one’s own relationships and the ability to assess the push and pull behaviors that are causing separation in the relationship.
Key themes that standout in the song include…
Identity and Power Struggles: Lines like “Where is my power when I say I’m never gonna take the bait” suggest a fight for autonomy, but also a sense of resignation.
Emotional Entrapment: The phrase “I built you into home” reflects how the narrator has shaped their identity around this person, making escape feel impossible.
Toxic Love and Betrayal: References like “Bite the hand that feeds” and “Left a bruise from a graze” allude to emotional or psychological harm inflicted under the guise of affection.
Some lyrics just stay with you on the first listen like, "I can feel the bleed of time", which suggests a deep awareness of time slipping away, blending or merging into the present in an almost uncontrollable way. It evokes a sense of inevitability, aging, or emotional exhaustion, where the past, present, and future seem to blur together. This phrase reinforces the song’s themes of entrapment, longing, and the weight of experience over time.
Vanna Pacella’s ethereal, rich vocals weave effortlessly through her music, carrying a haunting depth that lingers long after the song fades. A self-trained musician, she covers keys, and some guitar on her songs, and manages the song production process. Her voice, marked by a distinct and haunting cry, immediately captures your attention, effortlessly carrying the song’s emotions from start to finish. Her voice lingers in the air, its trailing echo reaching every corner of the room.
The instrumentation masterfully mirrors the song’s emotional ebb and flow, enhancing its dynamic intensity. Described as a soulful ballad, this song unfolds in rich layers, inviting listeners to dive deeper with every listen.

The ending line "Oh, but I am growing cold" suggests a sense of emotional detachment, exhaustion, or resignation. It signifies the narrator's fading warmth—whether in love, hope, or passion—implying they have been drained by the relationship or situation they are in. It conveys a feeling of numbness, as if the struggle has worn them down to the point of emotional or even physical fatigue.
With “Wolf”, Vanna Pacella delivers a soul-stirring anthem that not only showcases her artistry but also resonates deeply with those who have experienced the tumultuous dynamics of complex relationships.
As her influence in the New England music scene continues to expand, “Wolf” serves as a powerful testament to her talent for transforming raw emotion into music that resonates with listeners through its relatable themes and heartfelt direction.
“Wolf” will be a part of the artist’s debut album releasing the summer of 2025.
